Carbon Offsetting for our Supply Chain

West Mercia Police (WMP) and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) have partnered with Carbon Neutral Britain to give supply chain partners (both new and existing) the opportunity to offset their carbon emissions linked to the goods and services provided to us.

This is a voluntary initiative, designed to support West Mercia Police’s Supply Chain Code of Conduct and the supplier orientated Social Value Delivery Plan, helping us all contribute to a more sustainable future for the communities of the West Mercia region.

Two fully accredited schemes to choose from...

Both align with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Emission Standard and ISO 14064, and are reportable under Environmental, Social and Governance and the Streamline Energy & Carbon Reporting (SECR) legislative requirements.

 Why this matters?
By joining one of these schemes, our suppliers can:
  • Demonstrate commitment to sustainability and social value
  • Align with recognised international standards
  • Contribute to both global and UK-based environmental projects
  • Support the communities we serve in West Mercia and beyond

1) The Climate Fund™

  • Cost: £7.75 per tonne of CO2e (minimum offset of 100 tonnes)
  • Focus: Renewable energy and clean technology projects
  • Examples: Wind and solar projects in Chile, India and the Philippines; Hydro power in Fiji and Brazil; Cook Stove projects in Kenya
  • Impact: Supports communities in developing countries, delivering long-term social and economic benefits alongside carbon reduction.

2) The Woodland Fund™

  • Cost: £11.85 per tonne of CO2e (minimum offset of 100 tonnes)
  • Focus: Reforestation and woodland management projects, enhancing local wildlife, ecology and biodiversity
  • Examples: Forest planting in Uruguay; reforestation in Australia
  • UK Impact: Up to 10% of the Woodland Fund portfolio is invested in one of three UK Climate Action projects, at no extra cost.
Supply chain partners choosing the Woodland Fund™ can also support one of three UK-based projects:
Option 1 – UK Forest Creation
Option 2 – UK Rewilding: Hay Meadow Restoration
  • Restoration of over 800 hectares of wildflower meadows across the UK
  • Meadows provide habitats for insects, birds, bats, hedgehogs and more
  • Natural flood management benefits
  • Capture up to 3 tonnes of carbon per hectare annually
Option 3 – Blue Carbon: Sea Kelp Recovery
  • Protection and management of kelp forests along the UK coast (Solent and Sussex)
  • Kelp forests support greater biodiversity than many coral reefs
  • Globally, kelp captures around 5 million tonnes of carbon each year
