Social Value Marketplace enables Telefónica Tech to support West Mercia Police apprenticeships

Telefónica Tech are proudly supporting a 3 year Police constable (integrated degree), Level: 6 (1 Apprentice) for West Mercia Police by gifting their Apprenticeship Levy to West Mercia Police as "social value" to cover a percentage of the cost to run this.

A business can "gift" its Apprenticeship Levy by transferring up to 25% of its funds to another organisation or charity to pay for their apprenticeship training.

This new approach to align social value is being supported within the DICM Social Value Marketplace, allowing the larger supply companies with unused levy funds to support employability initiatives as part of the resilient communities objectives within counties.

The receiving organisation must be an eligible employer, and the donor can specify criteria like sector or location for where the funds go.

"The PCDA is a three-year, fully funded apprenticeship that enables individuals to earn a degree in Professional Policing Practice while working as a full-time police constable. It’s designed for those who do not already hold a degree and want to enter policing through a structured, earn-as-you-learn pathway". (West Mercia Police).

Creator of the DICM Social Value Marketplace, social entrepreneur Jay Baughan, explains this new approach to how social value is contracted within the UK public sector, "It's about mobilising social value within grass-roots activities which already meet published strategic objectives, which ultimately benefit our communities.
