GYM Youth Bus Outreach
The GYM Youth Bus is a mobile youth engagement project serving West Midlands, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Bedfordshire and surrounding areas, focused on reaching anti-social hotspots and neighbourhoods with limited youth provision. Its mission is to reduce youth crime and ASB, increase positive opportunities, and strengthen community cohesion.
Key elements
- Mobile setup: fully equipped fitness and sports space, basic wellbeing resources, mentoring area, and signposting to local services.
- Target areas: identified anti‑social behaviour hotspots and under-served neighbourhoods across the listed counties, working with local partners to prioritise routes.
- Activities: structured sports (basketball, football, multi-skill sessions), fitness classes, drop-in mentoring, youth workshops (conflict resolution, life skills), diversionary evening sessions, and family/community engagement events.
- Partnership & referrals: collaborate with councils, police, schools, youth services, charities and local community groups for referrals, safeguarding, and follow-up support.
- Staffing & safeguarding: trained youth workers, sports coaches, and volunteer mentors with DBS checks, clear safeguarding policies and incident reporting.
- Outcomes & evaluation: reduce incidents of ASB among participating young people, improved wellbeing and school/college engagement, stronger community relationships. Monitor via attendance, incident reports, participant feedback, and partner data over set evaluation periods.
- Sustainability & expansion: funding through grants, local authority support, sponsorship and community fundraising; adapt routes and programming based on local needs and term-time schedules.
Overall Impact
The ongoing service is ultimately accessible, with positive activities where they’re needed most to divert young people from risky behaviour, support personal development, and build safer, more connected communities.
